‘Rangers to sell Jack Butland after Man United gaffe’ – Fans furious
Rangers fans have reacted after Jack Butland committed a huge error against Man United in their 2-1 loss at Old Trafford, on his return in place of Liam Kelly.
The Red Devils secured victory in the dying moments of the match, with Bruno Fernandes scoring a late winner.
However, Butland was heavily criticised for the first goal Rangers conceded, as his weak punch from a corner resulted in an embarrassing own goal.
Cyriel Dessers gave the supporters a glimmer of hope as he scored late on in the game, capitalising on a Harry Maguire mistake. However, Fernandes’ goal in stoppage time sealed all three points.
This defeat leaves Rangers languishing in 13th place in the Europa League standings, outside the automatic qualification spots, while Manchester United sit comfortably in fourth.
Philippe Clement dropped Liam Kelly from Rangers XI
Butland returned to the starting XI after missing the Old Firm Derby earlier this month due to “internal bleeding”.
In his absence, he also sat out Rangers’ last five games across all competitions, including their 5-0 Scottish Cup win over Fraserburgh on 19 January.
Kelly deputised during that period and performed admirably, leading many fans to believe he deserved to keep his place. Despite this, Butland was reinstated to the lineup after sharing updates about his recovery and return to training.

Clement has relied heavily on Butland this season, with the Englishman starting all 29 of his matches in all competitions, conceding 27 goals while keeping 13 clean sheets.
However, fans have directed their anger at the goalkeeper after his weak punch from a corner in the 52nd minute allowed United to score their opening goal.
Supporters have questioned why Clement chose to drop Kelly, who had proven himself during Butland’s absence. One fan said, “No idea why he has dropped Kelly” calling the mistake “unbelievable”.
Many have now called for the club to part ways with Butland, with one supporter stating, “He’s making too many howlers” and suggesting the club should sell him to avoid further costly mistakes.
