Allan McGregor’s pal issues verdict on Rangers signing ‘top-class goalkeeper’
Alan Hutton has tipped Rangers to sign a new first-team goalkeeper regardless of whether Allan McGregor signs a new contract.
The former Gers defender and Rangers TV pundit, speaking exclusively to Football Insider’s Russell Edge, insisted the Light Blues need more proven quality between the sticks.
As reported by the Scottish Sun (28 May), Rangers are considering a move for Jack Butland, 29, as McGregor’s successor.

The 40-year-old is out of contract this summer and is reportedly weighing up his future.
Hutton, who is close pals with McGregor, suggested the Gers should sign a new goalkeeper regardless of what the veteran chooses to do.
“Butland’s had a good career,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“He’s one of those ones that has fallen off the last few seasons.
“He had so much potential and everyone thought he was going to be the next big thing. That’s not to say he still can’t be.
“He’s still, obviously, a very good goalkeeper and with the situation at Rangers, we don’t know what Allan McGregor’s going to do. It looks as though Jon McLaughlin will be the only goalkeeper there, as in a first-team keeper.
“Whether McGregor signs on or he doesn’t, they’ll still need to bring someone in either way. Bringing someone in like Jack Butland, he’s played at a high level and understands what pressure is all about.
“He could come up, play and prove to everyone: ‘Look at me. I’m actually a top-class goalkeeper.”

McGregor played 47 times across all competitions as Rangers secured a domestic double.
He has a total of 446 games under his belt for the Glasgow giants.
