Rangers told ‘do the right thing’ after BBC’s Beale update – Kenny

Rangers must “do the right thing” and not stand in Michael Beale’s way if he wants a shot at management with Cardiff City.

That is the view of ex-Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Gers’ first-team coach.

BBC Sport reported on 26 October that Beale is on the Bluebirds’ radar after Mick McCarthy’s departure.

Manager Steven Gerrard told RangersTV three days later that he had “no knowledge” of an approach from the Championship strugglers.

He did, however, admit that Cardiff will “100 per cent” be interested in the 41-year-old as he is “top at his job”.

Kenny accepts that Beale’s departure could leave Rangers at a loose end during a competitive title race.

But the former Republic of Ireland international insists that he should still be allowed to strike out on his own should the opportunity arrive.

“It goes without saying that it would be a big loss,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“After Rangers ran away with the league last year, you don’t want to upset things. Your backroom staff play a massive part in that.

“Things will change massively if someone as important as him leaves.

“It looks like it’s going to be a lot tighter at the top there this season. There are a few clubs in with a sniff this year.

“The last thing they need is for him to leave. I’m sure they’ll be desperate to keep him.

“But if he’s got a chance to become a manager, can you stand in his way? I think you’ve got to do the right thing.”
