Rangers told to accept Scott Wright offer after source’s reveal – ‘they need the money,’ says pundit
Frank McAvennie has claimed Scott Wright would have left Rangers in January if there had been any bids.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker said there is “no hiding” the fact that the Gers are in need of money.
On 27 February, Football Insider revealed that the Light Blues are willing to listen to offers for the 25-year-old as they prepare for an overhaul of their attack.
Michael Beale’s side knocked back interest in the winger in the January window as he is viewed as a valuable player in the squad.
English Championship clubs are said to have made enquiries over Wright’s availability but rejected the interest.
His current contract runs until 2025 but the Gers are now ready to listen to formal offers in the summer.
The winger has made 29 appearances for the Gers so far this season, most of which have come from the bench, and has only provided two assists in that time.
Beale’s side are also set to lose Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos for free at the end of the season if they cannot tie them down to new deals in what would be a further blow to their attacking options.
McAvennie claimed Rangers can’t afford to hold on to players like Wright.
“If somebody came in for Scott Wright in January he would have been gone,” he told Football Insider.

“Rangers are not hiding the fact that they need money. They have just come back into business.
“If somebody makes an offer for a player, especially someone like Wright who is not playing, then I think he would have been gone.“
