Rangers told to avoid Malik Tillman mistake as new deal all but done – expert

Rangers need to be careful about Abdallah Sima’s loan deal.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender said the club will need to be wary of a repeat of Malik Tillman’s deal.

Tillman spent the 2022-23 season on loan at Ibrox from Bayern Munich in a deal that included an option to buy for around £5million.

But following an impressive loan in Glasgow, Bayern increased the option price and then reportedly pulled out of the deal altogether.

The Gers are looking at another loan deal for the upcoming campaign.

Football Insider revealed (27 June), that the Glasgow club are close to completing the loan arrival of Brighton forward Sima.

But Hutton urged the Gers to be wary if agreeing on an option to buy.

If for talking’s sake Sima comes in, hits the ground running and does well, the fans love him, they want him to stay and he has hand an unbelievable season then all of a sudden Brighton say hold on we paid £7m for him,” he told Football Insider.

If you tried to buy him now after the seasons he has had, he has not really hit the heights as of yet, so you might have got him for £5m or £6m.

But then he goes and hits the heights next season, performs well in Europe for Rangers then all of a sudden they want £12m for him.

This is what happens, the goalposts move when you have got a loan signing who does well. It is a difficult situation but if you do not have the money to spend up front then it is an option that you have to look at.
