Rangers told to complete signing of ‘top No9’ – Keith Wyness
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Rangers will need to bring in a “top number nine” in the summer window.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the Gers have focused on “shoring up” their “leaky defence” in the first part of the window.
Rangers have already completed permanent deals for left-back Jefte, centre-back Clinton Nsiala and midfielder Mohamed Diomande this summer.
Hamza Igamane, Connor Barron and Liam Kelly have also arrived at Ibrox.
Meanwhile, Fabio Silva has returned to Wolves from his loan spell and Kemar Roofe has been released at the end of his contract.
Right-back James Tavernier (20) was Rangers’ top scorer in the 2023-24 campaign as the club finished second in the Scottish Premiership.
Rangers to shift focus and search for ‘top number nine’, says Wyness
Wyness insisted there is a “lot of work ahead” to transform the squad to the level of rivals Celtic.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “All the activity so far has been towards the back.
“Clement has been focused on shoring up what was a pretty leaky defence towards the end of last season.
“The club also needs improvements in the strike force.

“Clement loves to play with wingers, and he’ll also need to bring in a top number nine to make the most of that set-up.
“He’s focusing on his defence, and there is a lot of work ahead to strengthen this squad up to the level of Celtic.”
In other news, Rangers plan to accept £5million striker offer.
