Rangers told to complete two £20m+ signings after Ibrox source’s reveal – pundit

Noel Whelan has claimed Rangers missed a “perfect opportunity” to secure new contracts for Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds United striker claimed the Gers will be forced to spend “big” on replacements for the pair.

Morelos, 26, and Kent, 26 have just over six months left on their Ibrox contracts and are free to negotiate with other clubs in January.

On Saturday (10 December),Football Insider revealed that the Light Blues have failed to agree a new contract with Morelos after he demanded £45,000 per week.

On 1 October, we broke the news that Kent has also rejected a new ‘big-money’ contract offer as he sets his sights on a move to the Premier League.

The Bears sold Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey in the summer for a sum that could surpass £30million.

Whelan claimed the sale of the pair could have funded new contracts for Morelos and Kent.

I think once you lose two personalities like they did for big money, of course it was big money but you have got to put that somewhere else,” he told Football Insider.

Put it into other big players whose contracts are about to run out. That to me was their perfect opportunity.

Rangers

You have got finances in the bank, you can offer these two players new contracts. It shows them that they are wanted at the club, their worth to the club.

This is not a good position for Rangers. How are they going to replace these two? To replace players of their quality they are going to have to spend at least tens of millions on each player.
