Rangers told to get Goldson ‘out the door’ and sign star in January on loan – Mills

Rangers could be ready to sell Connor Goldson in January, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League and England defender claimed Giovanni van Bronckhorst may want to get rid of Goldson if he is not going to be at Ibrox in the long term.

A Rangers source told Football Insider today (2 December) the centre-back has rejected the offer of a new contract.

His current deal expires at the end of the current campaign and hope of him signing a new contract is evaporating among Ibrox chiefs.

Director of football Ross Wilson revealed at the club’s AGM this week (30 November) Rangers are unwilling to break their pay structure for any player.

Goldson has interest south of the border and he could sign a pre-contract agreement with an English club in January.

Asked whether that could lead to the Gers selling the 28-year-old next month, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “There’s every chance.

“You’re thinking is he part of the plans long term? Does the manager really want him? Not really.

“You know what, let’s move it on. Get him out of the door and get the money in for a loan deal or a player that you can utilise.

“He doesn’t have a relationship with the new manager yet.”

Goldson, who turns 29 later this month, has played 187 games across all competitions for Rangers.

The Englishman has played the full 90 minutes of both Scottish Premiership games under Van Bronckhorst.
