Rangers told to pull plug on Shamal George deal amid ‘huge’ claim – expert

Alan Hutton has told Rangers to pull the plug on interest in Shamal George.

On Monday (13 February), sources told this site that the Livingston goalkeeper has been impressing Gers scouts this season ahead of a potential move in the summer.

The 25-year-old is on the Light Blues’ radar and Michael Beale confirmed funds have been set aside to acquire a new shot-stopper in the summer.

George joined David Martindale’s side from Colchester United last summer and has been watched extensively by the Gers’ scouts this season.

Current number one Allan McGregor is out of contract in the summer and the Ibrox club are keen on a longer term replacement than 35-year-old Jon McLaughlin.

But Hutton said George doesn’t have the kind of experience the next Rangers goalkeeper will need.

Of course he knows the league and know what it is all about but no disrespect to Livingston, it is a huge step up,” he told Football Insider.

You are going into a team where you are going to be the number one moving forward and hopefully for a long period of time, can you handle that pressure?

It is different playing in the league and then handling the pressure that comes with playing for Rangers.

Rangers

For me, I would like to see somebody coming in with experience that has played in Europe, who has played at a high level.

I want somebody who is going to be there for the foreseeable future, not for the next season or so. So it is a massive area where Michael Beale has to sort out. It will be interesting to see who he looks at.
