Rangers transfer imminent after international attacker makes Twitter revelation

By Matt Farr

Eduardo Herrera is on the verge of completing his long-awaited move to Rangers.

The 28-year-old attacker shared a photo on his personal Twitter account in the early hours of Monday morning of himself on a plane alongside Mexican international team-mate Carlos Pena.

The photo was accompanied by a caption that read that the pair were flying to the United Kingdom, and following heavy speculation over a move to Rangers, the city of Glasgow is their most likely destination.

A double deal for Herrera and Pena had been put on hold over the past seven days due to a delay over the paperwork, with Rangers forced to wait for work permits and visas to be granted.

But Herrera’s Twitter revelation suggests they have been given the green light to finalise deals for their latest new arrivals, who will become the seventh and eighth signings of Rangers’ summer overhaul of the first-team squad.

Manager Pedro Caixinha has already added Bruno Alves, Ryan Jack, Fabio Cardoso, Dalcio, Daniel Candeias and Alfredo Morelos to his ranks, and Herrera and Pena are almost certain to be the next new names in at Ibrox.

The Daily Record claim that the pair are due to be unveiled by Rangers in the next 24 hours, and that Herrera will arrive in a £1million deal from Pumas.

He and midfielder Pena, who joins from Chivas, are both understood to have put pen-to-paper on three-year-deals at Ibrox.

They could be set to make their debuts for the Scottish club as early as next week, when Rangers take on Luxembourg-outfit Progres Niederkorn in the Europa League first qualifying round.

Football Insider verdict

As with many of Caixinha’s summer signings, there will be reservations as to whether or not Herrera and Pena can be a success at Ibrox. Caixinha has moved to bring in players he knows and trusts, but as far as Rangers are concerned, they are all far from risk-free transfers. At least, however, both Herrera and Pena boast reasonable international experience, which cannot yet be said for several of their other new recruits. Nevertheless, they can easily put to bed any doubts by hitting the ground running at their new club, with Herrera’s tweet suggesting official confirmation of the double-deal is imminent.
