Rangers TV pundit ‘amazed’ by Giorgos Giakoumakis after what he’s spotted at Celtic

Alan Hutton has heaped praise on Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis after his man of the match display against Ross County.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Rangers and Scotland defender is particularly impressed by the 27-year-old’s hold up play and positional sense.

Giakoumakis scored a hat-trick on Saturday as the Hoops thrashed Ross County 4-0 at Celtic Park.

The summer signing has scored seven goals in nine league appearances in 2022 having struggled to make an impact earlier in the season.

Speaking to club media (19 March), Ange Postecoglou expressed his delight at Giakoumakis’ performance both on and off the ball.

When asked for his assessment of Giakoumakis’ form, Hutton told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge: “It was difficult for him at the start.

“It looked like he was trying too hard for me. A couple of niggly injuries were added into the mix as well which is why it was difficult.

“Now we are starting to see the best of him though. He has done really well over the past couple of months.

“His hold up play has been very good and he has that sense in the box. He always knows where to be. That is a skill. You have to be in the right place at the right time.

“His numbers are starting to pick up. He is flying to the standard we expected. His record was amazing before he came to Celtic. Now we are seeing the best of him in a Celtic shirt.”
