Rangers TV pundit: ‘I feel sorry’ for Kemar Roofe after latest from Ibrox
Alan Hutton has admitted he “feels sorry” for Kemar Roofe after Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s latest injury update from Rangers.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender and Rangers TV pundit admitted the 29-year-old has had a big opportunity to impress in Alfredo Morelos’ absence snatched away from him.
Speaking at his press conference last week (22 April), Van Bronckhorst confirmed he hoped to have Roofe, as well as Aaron Ramsey, back for the second leg against RB Leipzig.
Speaking on Wednesday (27 April) ahead of Thursday’s first leg, the Gers boss stated he had “made plans” to cope without Roofe and Morelos.
Hutton insisted with the Colombia striker also out through injury, this should have been Roofe’s time to shine.
Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “It’s a real shame actually. I feel sorry for him because he’s had to be patient and wait to get into the first team.
“When he did initially, there were question marks above him. Could he compete against Celtic, was he physical enough?
“I think he proved a lot of doubters wrong, especially with his recent performances. So to not just have Morelos out but your second striker, Ramsey too, the injury list is piling up.
“I do feel for him. Hopefully, we can see him again soon.”
Roofe has played 35 times across all competitions this season, with 16 goals under his belt.

However, less than half of those appearances have come in the starting XI.
With Roofe and Morelos out, Fashion Sakala led the line in the 3-1 win over Motherwell.
In other news, Rangers have told a player who signed a new contract last year to find a new club.
