Rangers TV pundit issues verdict on Aaron Ramsey being axed after what he’s seen

Alan Hutton has tipped Giovanni van Bronckhorst to hand Aaron Ramsey a regular run in the Rangers side after starting against Dundee.

The former Gers defender and Rangers TV pundit, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 31-year-old needs meaningful game time to get back to his best.

Speaking to Premier Sports after Sunday’s 3-0 win (13 March), Ramsey revealed he was “delighted” to get as many minutes as he did under his belt.

He confirmed he is ready to “build” on his 79-minute starting roe with more game time after struggling for fitness since January.

Hutton insisted Ramsey could be a “difference-maker” in upcoming games.

However, he insisted the midfielder needs to get “up to speed” with regular playing time.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I’ve spoken about it a lot, the question mark over his fitness.

“You can tell when he plays high up the pitch, he gets himself into areas where defenders find it difficult to come and really press him.

“He’s technically gifted; he can find a pass, he can make opportunities and score goals. I’m hoping that this is a building block for him because he played a decent amount of minutes.

“Hopefully, he can carry that on because I think he can be that difference-maker. There’s definitely a position in the team there for him. It’s about staying fit.

“You can’t drop any more points if you want to keep up in the title race and go on all fronts. If you look at the fixtures in April, there’s no real room for manoeuvre.

“You can’t just think we’ll give Aaron Ramsey the last 10 minutes, it’s not going to work like that. If they can build on that Dundee performance and get him right up to speed, I think he could be a crucial player.

“You need all your top players in top physical shape to really compete.”

Ramsey has only started twice in five games – both in the Scottish Cup – since his loan move from Juventus.

He has just two Premiership appearances, each as a substitute, under his belt so far.
