Rangers TV pundit makes ‘plan B’ transfer claim after finance expert’s ‘enormous’ £70m reveal
Alan Hutton has admitted Rangers may have to turn to “plan B” in terms of transfers should they fail to qualify for the Champions League.
The former Gers defender and Rangers TV pundit, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted reaching Europe’s premier club competition would be “huge” in terms of retaining and recruiting players.
As revealed by Football Insider last month (26 March), Rangers are on course to announce revenues of up to £70millon for the current campaign.

Sources told this site those figures are relatively “phenomenal” in the context of the club’s recent history.
However, finance expert Kieran Maguire told Football Insider qualification for the Champions League would see the Gers’ finances skyrocket well beyond that £70million figure.
He stated the “enormous” benefits would allow Rangers to “shop in a completely different pool in terms of recruitment”.
Hutton admitted the Gers may only be able to sign and keep certain players if they reach the Champions League.
Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I always think there will be a plan A and a plan B. If they make the Champions League, it’s always a huge plus and you can then hold onto your top talent.
“I always go back to every player is for sale if the right price is agreed. That’s never going to change when you’re at Rangers and Celtic, it is what it is.
“If you do well in the Europa League, qualify for the Champions League next year, that’s a big draw.

“We’re talking about clubs in Glasgow, Rangers and Celtic, that play in European competitions every year. That’s what a lot of professionals strive to be at, at that level.
“They’re consistent with it, so it is a huge draw for players. I think there will be a plan A and a plan B depending on how they finish.”
