Rangers TV pundit suggests new signings ‘in the pipeline’ at Ibrox after manager reveal

Alan Hutton has suggested Rangers already have new signings “in the pipeline” in case of any “big-name” exits in January.

The former Gers defender and Rangers TV pundit, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Light Blues would not want to be caught short in case of a “substantial” offer for one of their players.

As quoted by the National on Monday (27 December), Giovanni van Bronckhorst admitted Rangers need to be “ready for anything” in January.

He refused to commit to the club doing any business but revealed he does not want to end the window with a smaller squad than he has now.

The likes of Nathan Patterson and Joe Aribo have been linked to English clubs ahead of the winter window.

Hutton suggested Rangers would already have irons in the fire when it comes to signing replacements.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I think you have to be prepared for everything. There’s no point in thinking none of my star players are going to leave and then one goes.

“Then you’re kind of struggling, you’ve got nothing in the pipeline. They will have plans in place for X, Y and Z if they do leave.

“If we’re talking about one of the top stars, the big-name players, we’re talking about a substantial fee. Hopefully, that will be allowed to be reinvested into the playing squad.

“I think that would kind of be the remit for the manager moving forward.

“They have to be prepared. I’m pretty sure they will be, but they don’t have to jump the gun and be out there and try to spend a lot of money. I think it is a case of let’s wait and see what happens.”

Rangers currently sit six points clear at the top of the Premiership table.

They return to action against Aberdeen on 18 January.
