Rangers TV pundit tells Callum McGregor to be ‘very careful’ amid ‘shocker’ verdict
Alan Hutton has insisted Rangers star Kemar Roofe did not deserve to be sent off against Celtic for a lunging tackle on Daizen Maeda.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender and Rangers TV pundit suggested the incident probably warranted an “orange card”.
Speaking during Premier Sports’ live coverage of the game (17 April, 15:05), Chris Sutton insisted Roofe, who was booked, should have seen red for his professional foul on Maeda.

Writing in his Daily Record column (18 April), he went on to say referee Bobby Madden had a “shocker”.
Hutton, who was part of Premier Sports’ coverage at Hampden, pointed to a similar foul conceded by Callum McGregor on Ryan Kent as a reason Roofe was right to receive a yellow.
Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “It wasn’t Madden’s best game. Over the piece, he got decisions wrong. There were tackles on the line, like Roofe.
“I think it’s an orange (card). You can totally see what he’s doing. He’s just trying to do a professional foul, which you understand. Celtic are breaking away.
“When, as a player, you don’t realise a tackle’s coming, you think you’re away from the person and they lunge in to clip your heels, anything can happen.
“We’ve seen it in the past. Things get broken, ankles, things like that because you’re not expecting it. You have to be really careful.

“The same thing happened with McGregor on someone. They were breaking away and he clipped his heels as well. It wasn’t as bad because he didn’t jump in but it’s the same kind of thing. You need to be very careful.”
Roofe has only been booked three times in 35 times for Rangers this season.
