Rangers TV pundit: This is the dealbreaker in Alex Lowry talks after Newcastle twist
Alan Hutton has suggested the promise of first-team football will be a dealbreaker in contract negotiations between Rangers and Alex Lowry.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender and Rangers TV pundit insisted the 18-year-old will want to see a clear pathway into the senior side before putting pen to paper.
As revealed by Football Insider last week (11 April), the Glasgow giants have offered the attacking midfielder a new contract worth £5,000-a-week.

However, Newcastle United have held talks over signing the Ibrox sensation this summer.
Hutton insisted game time, not money, would be the driving force behind whether Lowry pens a new deal at Rangers.
Asked if he thought the promise of first-team football could be a dealbreaker for Lowry in contract talks, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Yeah, I think so.
“Obviously, the money situation is obviously good. He’s at one of the best teams in Scotland that can pay wages, so that’s not the thing.
“It’s the pathway into the first team. We’ve all gone through that as youngsters, myself included when I was coming through. I’m looking at the team thinking I’m never going to get in there.
“It’s very difficult, they continuously buy players in. Of course, that will be a worry. Then again, I think wherever you go, if you’re a good player, whether you go down south or whatever, you have to fight for your place.
“You have to show the manager that you’re worthy of being in the team. It doesn’t matter wherever you go.
“I feel he definitely has the potential to make the first team from what I’ve seen so far, especially in the Stirling Albion game.
“He has really taken it in his stride and he had a go in the first team after that. He just needs to continue with his development. I think he’s got the all the attributes to be in the first team.
“So stay where you are, sign the contract, work hard and what will be, will be.”
