Kieran Maguire: £595m deal could now be ‘terminated’ after Rangers twist
Rangers know that they could get a bigger and better fee from Sky Sports if the media giants cancel their broadcast deal with the EFL.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider as the fate of the SPFL’s TV deal hangs in the balance.
The Daily Mail reported on Monday (5 September) that talks between the two parties over a new four-year £118million deal have collapsed.

It is understood that Rangers, who have previously stated that the rights are being undersold, effectively vetoed the deal by failing to respond to a resolution over increased matchday access.
Sky have paid £595m to air the EFL over the course of their most recent five-year agreement, per The Guardian.
Maguire predicts that the broadcasters could return with an improved offer for the SPFL rights if they decide not to renew with the EFL.
“If Rangers feel there is a better offer elsewhere from a broadcaster, you can understand the stance they have taken,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“At the same time, other clubs in the SPFL will feel they have got a good long-term relationship with Sky.

“They may also think there is scope to expand this if the EFL deal with Sky is terminated.
“Both parties will feel they have a strong case. I am firmly of the opinion that the best way to resolve this is through negotiations.“
