Back in the side for the first time since the 3-2 Old Firm defeat in March and quickly slotted in like he had never been away.
What Bates lacks in technical ability he makes up for with his physical strengths and could be second-guessing his decision to join Hamburg now that the Light Blues have confirmed Steven Gerrard as manager.
Solid as always defensively and the Gers looked much less likely to concede – particularly from balls over the top – with Bates back in the side.
Bundled the ball home with only a few minutes left to score his first senior goal in his final Ibrox appearance before joining HSV.
