Rangers victims of major injustice as Alfredo Morelos footage analysed – ‘they were both at it,’ says expert
Alan Hutton has claimed Alfredo Morelos’ goal for Rangers against Celtic on Saturday (8 April) should have stood.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender said that the SFA will always back the decision of the referee.
As shown on Sky Sports (9 April), the 26-year-old thought he had opened the scoring for the Gers at Parkhead only for referee Kevin Clancy to rule out the opener as Morelos was adjudged to have fouled Celtic’s Alistair Johnston in the lead up.
VAR official Nick Walsh stuck with the onfield official’s decision and the goal was ruled out.
The Hoops went on to win the game 3-2 and increase the gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership table to 12 points.
The Ibrox club contacted the SFA to complain about the decision but the governing body agreed with the decision of their officials on the day.
Hutton wasn’t surprised by the SFA’s response.
“I think on their side they will always back the ref and what he went for,” he told Football Insider.
“Me personally, I thought it was a goal. There is a lot of jostling between Johnston and Morelos.
“I get where they are coming from, there is a little push towards the end. Is it enough to put him over?

“At the end of the day they were grappling with each other so you have to take it both ways. If that is a goal for Rangers when it pops up again, you have to then give it.
“Overall I thought they were both at it and it should have been given.“
