Rangers victims of major injustice as Antonio Colak footage emerges – pundit

Frank McAvennie can’t believe Rangers conceded a penalty against Partick Thistle for Antonio Colak’s handball.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker said it is “wrong” that referees aren’t the ones in charge of the games anymore.

As shown on Viaplay Sports (12 February), Thistle’s Kevin Holt struck a header inside the box that hit Colak’s arm from incredibly close range.

Referee David Munro did not initially award the penalty but was instructed by VAR official Steven Kirkland to have another look at the incident, after which he pointed to the spot.

Although the Championship side converted the penalty to put them 1-0 in front, they went on to lose the game 3-2 in a very tightly contested Scottish cup fixture.

The Gers will face Raith Rovers in the quarter-final of the competition next month.

McAvennie couldn’t understand why a penalty was awarded.

It used to be that a handball was intentional,” he told Football Insider.

If you hit the ball off somebody’s arm I do not think that is a penalty. If he is trying to stop it and his arm is out that is a penalty.

Some of the decisions they are making, when people have their back turned to the ball, you can’t do anything about that.

It seems like the referees are not in charge of the game, it is the people in the VAR room and that is just wrong.
