Rangers will be ‘delighted’ after Alfredo Morelos development pre-Union Saint-Gilloise – pundit

Frank McAvennie has claimed Rangers will be “delighted” to have Alfredo Morelos back to match fitness and scoring goals.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Celtic striker said the 26-year-old’s return will give the Gers a “boost” ahead of their Champions League third qualifying round second leg.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side lost 2-0 to Union Saint-Gilloise last Tuesday (2 August).

Rangers will welcome the Belgian side to Ibrox on Tuesday (9 August) for the return leg.

Morelos spent nearly five months on the sidelines after sustaining a thigh injury in May.

The striker scored on his return for the Gers on Saturday (6 August) in a 2-0 win over Kilmarnock.

As quoted by Football Scotland (6 August) post-match, Giovanni van Bronckhorst said it was “good” to have the Colombian back in the squad.

When asked by Football Insider how important it will be for Rangers to have Morelos back, McAvennie said: “I think he’s the best they’ve got as a striker.

Rangers

As a talent, he’s a good player there’s no doubting that. They’re going to need him on Tuesday as well as the other striker [Antonio Colak]. It’s good that he scored, it’s good that Morelos came off the bench and scored.

That’s good for Rangers and it’s a little boost for them going in to the game on Tuesday. I think he’s the catalyst for them. And Rangers fans will be delighted he’s back and scoring. Hopefully he can do that for them on Tuesday.
