Rangers will be 'worried' about Goldson quitting amid Athletic reveal - Whelan
Connor Goldson’s contract situation is “a big worry” for Rangers, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Aberdeen and Leeds United striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, stressed the importance of the 28-year-old to Steven Gerrard’s side following a campaign where he played every minute of every game across all competitions.
Goldson has less than 12 months left on his contract at Ibrox.
Football Insider revealed on July 1st the club are confident that the centre-half will put pen to paper on new terms before the transfer window shuts.
It is understood that an improved three-year agreement was close to being agreed in April before negotiations stalled.
According to The Athletic‘s Jordan Campbell (July 17th), there is next to no chance of the Gers cashing in on Goldson this summer.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if the defender’s situation was becoming a concern, Whelan said: “It is a big worry, absolutely.
“He was so important to them last season. We all know what a good player he is and he is the one constant in that backline.
“I’m sure there is a huge amount of respect between him and Steven Gerrard.
“Negotiations over new contracts are never as easy as you think. Rangers will have a finite amount of money that they can pay in wages but talks will be ongoing.
“To be honest, I can see him signing a new deal. He is at a club that is going in a great direction. He has the Champions League to look forward to this year.”
