Kieran Maguire reveals conversation with CEO as key Morelos issue at Rangers detailed
Rangers may generate overseas interest in the club through stars like Alfredo Morelos – but monetising that interest is not easy.
That is according to finance guru and Football Insider columnist Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively about the 25-year-old Colombian striker.
Morelos, who is contracted with Rangers until 2023, is currently away on international duty with Colombia at the Copa America in Brazil.
He may not be at the club much longer after Football Insider revealed that Rangers will part with him for £13million amid interest from Porto.
But Rangers are also targeting markets such as the United States through their International Soccer Academy scheme.
Maguire claims that generating cash through interest in one player alone is a difficult strategy.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “I was talking to the chief executive of a club who had signed a player from South America recently.
“He said monetising interest is the difficult part. Is there interest? Yes. But converting that interest into hard cash in fairly distant markets such as South America is actually very tricky.
“It’s difficult even for massive clubs like Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea.
“For a club such as Rangers who has to really target markets because it doesn’t have a limitless commercial department, they would probably take a more cautious approach.”
Morelos signed for Rangers from Finnish side HJK Helsinki in 2017.
He has gone on to find the back of the net 94 times in 182 appearances for the Light Blues.
