Josh Windass may reconsider Rangers transfer prospect after Danny Rohl exit
Josh Windass has been consistently linked with Rangers in recent transfer windows and a reunion with Danny Rohl has been mooted on occasions.
The 32-year-old had been a key player for the German manager during his stint at Sheffield Wednesday, shouldering the goalcoring burden at Hillsborough.
With the 37-year-old head coach now off to Red Bull Salzburg, the Wrexham striker might have second thoughts about returning to the Glaswegian outfit.
Simon Jordan recently claimed on talkSPORT that Windass was possibly considering a return to Ibrox, but the forward could potentially drop that idea now that Rohl has left.
The Englishman's experience and versatility could certainly come in handy at the Light Blues, but it would be surprising to see him back in G51 in the summer.
Josh Windass Rangers transfer suggestion emerges
Windass spent two years at the Gers between 2016 and 2018, playing a key role and making a name for himself in Scotland.
Since then, the forward has plied his trade in the EFL Championship with Wigan Athletic, Sheffield Wednesday and now Wrexham, where he scored 15 league goals in the 2025-26 campaign.
Jordan revealed that while setting off to cover the 2026 World Cup, he spoke with the forward and felt like the Light Blues could have been his next realistic destination.
At that point, there was still relative uncertainty around Rohl's future at Ibrox, but now, the German manager's exit has been confirmed.
Speaking on talkSPORT on 15 June, Jordan said, "I was talking to Josh Windass on the plane [over to America]. There was a perception that he might have been potentially considering an opportunity to go to Rangers."
Derek McInnes to have other transfer priorities at Ibrox
Football Insider transfer correspondent Pete O'Rourke shared on 14 June that Rangers are prioritising signing a new right-back after James Tavernier and Max Aarons' departures.
Another position the Gers desperately need reinforcements in is clearly at centre-back, with John Souttar and Emmanuel Fernandez the only two natural options at McInnes' disposal.
The Glaswegian outfit have decent attacking depth for now with Lawrence Shankland, Youssef Chermiti, Bojan Miovski and Danilo and it would make sense for them to focus on strengthening other areas before pursuing someone like Windass.
