Rangers 'at risk' of losing Dujon Sterling as Premier League club plot move
Rangers fear they could be set to lose Dujon Sterling in the near future as clubs take note of his outstanding performances.
The 26-year-old has enjoyed an excellent start to the season under Derek McInnes, and shone during the 1-0 win against Celtic before the start of the international break.
A number of Premier League and leading Championship clubs are believed to have been tracking the right-back since his move to Ibrox in 2023 and have now been impressed.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the level of interest in Sterling could lead to a move away from Rangers if a big-money offer arrives.
As things stand, there are no plans to let the former Chelsea youngster leave Ibrox, and he will remain a crucial part of McInnes' long-term plans.
However, should he continue to impress in the Scottish Premiership, he could be tempted to make a move back to England wiith Premier League clubs now lurking.
Could Dujon Sterling leave Rangers?
Football Insider revealed on 29 September that Rangers are hopeful of blocking any move for Sterling, with a number of clubs circling in case he becomes available.
The right-back has two years remaining on his contract at Ibrox, placing the club in a strong position to dictate his future, but their stance may not be so clear next summer.
As a result of his recent upturn in performances, a number of clubs south of the border have taken note, and there are concerns he could be lured away from Ibrox.
"Dujon Sterling could be one to watch for a number of clubs in England," Brown told Football Insider.
"Whenever a player is performing at a high level in Scotland for either Rangers or Celtic, it's going to attract attention from clubs in the Premier League.
"Sterling is no difference, and having been at Chelsea previously, he is somebody these clubs will know plenty about and I'm sure they've been keeping tabs on him.
"If he continues to play at a high level for Rangers, then there could be interest from clubs in the Premier League or the Championship.
"And if that happens, Rangers will be at risk of losing him, because if we're being realistic then it's a big step up in terms of the strength of the league as well as the money."
How do Rangers feel about losing Sterling?
Sterling's role at Ibrox has become clear in recent months after he established himself as a key player at Ibrox, particularly following McInnes' appointment in the summer.
He has a patchy injury history which has led to major concerns since his arrival in 2023, but the club are hopeful he has not put those issues behind him.
As a result, Brown told Football Insider on 28 September that Rangers are doing everything in their power to keep hold of Sterling and could offer him a new contract.
His current contract is set to run until 2028 after he penned an extension back in 2024, placing the club in a strong position with regard to his immediate future.
However, Rangers are keen to reward Sterling for his recent upturn in performances alongside securing his long-term future by handing him another extension.
