Rangers submit 'bid' for player who wowed Rafael van der Vaart
Rangers have turned their attention to PSV Eindhoven star Couhaib Driouech this summer transfer window as Derek McInnes looks to reinforce his wings.
Reports have emerged that the Gers have had a bid rejected for the 24-year-old as they look to win the race for the former Morocco Under-23 international.
The Dutch club are set to demand around £6million for the winger, and it is anticipated that this will be met as both clubs discuss a potential move.
Driouech has been a bright spark in the Eredivisie for years, and picked up 10 goal contributions in the division last season as the club completed a domestic double.
However, he has previously earned praise for his form at Excelsior, which eventually won him a move to PSV two years ago.
Former Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid star, Rafael van der Vaart, has previously heaped praise on the winger, who could soon be Rangers’ 10th signing of the summer.
Rafael van der Vaart: Couhaib Driouech has excellent professionalism
If Record Sports’ report is correct, then Rangers could have an excellent player on their hands.
The draw to Dundee United last week made it clear that the Gers needed reinforcements in attack before the transfer window was over.
Luckily, Driouech has proven for years in the Netherlands that he is able to cause chaos in the final third of the pitch.
However, van der Vaart was also quick to highlight his professionalism back in 2024 after his move to PSV collapsed.
Speaking on NOS Sport channel via le 360 Sport on 20 February 2024, he was quick to praise the winger for his performance in the 4-2 defeat in the Rotterdam derby.
He said: "What a performance this player delivered against Sparta! And to see his chance to be transferred to PSV missed out on that.
"It's deplorable that PSV didn't sign him."
"The player received a lot of tackles, at least one of which deserved a red card. And I repeat, playing like that when his dream of going to PSV couldn't be realised during the recent transfer window is something worthy of praise, and he is an example to follow for his professionalism.”
Eventually, Driouech would get his move to PSV. However, these quotes regarding the winger’s quality and professionalism will no doubt excite Rangers fans ahead of the potential move.
Who else could Rangers sign this summer?
Rangers have also been chasing Fares Ghedjemis this summer transfer window.
The Gers have already seen a bid rejected by Frosinone for the winger as they look to beat their Old Firm rivals to his signature.
However, Football Insider has now exclusively revealed that Celtic are ahead of Rangers in the race to sign Ghedjemis.
Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if the potential signing of Driouech could alter the Gers’ desire to bring in Ghedjemis this summer.
