Rangers are unlikely to reignite their interest in Plymouth Argyle striker Aribim Pepple in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Pepple emerged onto the Gers' radar as they searched for numerous new striker signings in the summer window.

The 23-year-old scored 18 times in 41 appearances across all competitions in his debut season for the Greens after joining from Chesterfield.

He stayed put at Home Park as Rangers explore alternative options, and recently admitted that he took their interest "like a compliment" and a sign of "doing something well."

Despite links to the contrary, Rangers are not likely to make another move for Pepple's services in the next window, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast.

Derek McInnes is content with the centre-forward options he has at his disposal, especially with the injured Lawrence Shankland and Youssef Chermiti set to return to the fold as the season progress.

Aribim Pepple to Rangers not on the cards as it stands

Pepple has started this campaign in similarly fine form, with five strikes in 11 Argyle appearances.

Rangers splashed out around £9million on Kevin Kelsy in the summer, with Ryan Naderi and Bojan Miovski also battling for places up front as it stands.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "Pepple could be on their radar, but I don't think it's a priority for Rangers now, going into the winter window. They obviously spent big on Kevin Kelsy before the summer window shut, he's had a decent impact in his early days at Ibrox and they still have depth in attack.

"I don't think a new striker will be a priority for Rangers in the January window as well so maybe that interest in Pepple is not required right now as well because I think they are well stocked in attack."

Rangers want Dujon Sterling to sign a new contract

McInnes' backline has impressed so far this season, with Sterling part of the stellar side that has kept a clean sheet in each of their last four games.

The English right-back has returned to full fitness to become a key man for Rangers once again, but is soon set to enter the final 18 months of his current contract.

Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that the Ibrox club want Sterling to sign a new deal soon to ward off potential transfer interest from clubs in the UK and abroad.
