Sources: Tuur Rommens to play 'big part' in Rangers agreeing Bryan Reynolds deal
Tuur Rommens is set to play a key role in Rangers pursuit of his former Westerlo teammate Bryan Reynolds this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The left-back joined Rangers from the Belgian club in January as they aimed to bolster their defence, and they can now replicate that move on the opposite flank.
Scouts are believed to have first taken notice of the right-back's performances when scouting Rommens, and they are now prepared to step up their interest.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Rangers are hopeful their new relationship with Westerlo can help them land Reynolds.
Reports elsewhere have claimed the Ibrox club have already seen a bid rejected for Reybolds, but they are planning to renew with new terms to get a deal done.
His former teammate could play a key role in convincing him of the move, while it was his move to Glasgow that inspired Rangers to shop in Belgium once more
What is the latest on Rangers' move for Bryan Reynolds?
Football Insider revealed on 13 June that Rangers are confident of signing Reynolds with work already ongoing to get a deal over the line amid talks with Westerlo.
There is a feeling at Ibrox that they will be able to do the deal at a discounted fee, as the right-back has just one year remaining on his current contract.
Westerlo are open to letting him leave this summer in a last-ditch attempt to raise funds rather than losing him for free, in a significant boost to Rangers' plans.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "He is a player that obviously Rangers are interested in, and there's a real possibility that a deal could be done.
"Reynolds is a good player, he can play at right-back as well as left-back and further up the pitch as well, so he would add versatility to Danny Rohl's squad.
"Rangers are well aware of him because when they were scouting Turr Rommens, Reynolds is a former teammate of Rommens.
"He first caught their eye when they were pursuing that move in that respect, and his former teammate could play a big part in convincing him of the move to Ibrox.
"Rangers, if they do firm up their interest, will be quite hopeful that they can get a deal done."
What would a deal for Reynolds cost Rangers?
Rangers have set their sights on Reynolds as their top target to replace both James Tavernier and Max Aarons given their lack of quality depth at right-back.
The USA international is one of a number of right-backs Rangers have considered, but the finances involved in this move could be the key to getting a deal done.
Football Insider shared reports that Westerlo have turned down an offer of around £2.1million for Reynolds already, but Rangers are reaedy to return with a fresh bid.
There is a feeling that their initial offer will not have been too far away from his valuation, with negotiations planned for both clubs to agree on a suitable fee.
Rangers will be made to manage their spending in the transfer market following a third-place finish in the SPFL, and feel this would be an affordable deal.
