James Penrice has been heavily linked with Rangers once again ahead of the summer transfer window.

The full-back is currently at AEK Athens in Greece, where he has just helped the club lift the Super League Greece title.

Since his summer move from Hearts, he has featured 32 times for the club, becoming a core part of the first team.

Now, according to Rangers Review on 11 May, the Gers are ready to re-ignite their interest in the defender.

With Jayden Meghoma expected to depart Ibrox this summer, everything points towards Penrice being a considerable upgrade at Rangers.

James Penrice’s stats are far better than Jayden Meghoma

Meghoma joined Rangers in the summer on loan from Brentford. However, his career at Ibrox has not been fruitful.

The full-back has proven to be unreliable and has now lost his place in the starting XI to Tuur Rommens.

Penrice betters Meghoma in many stats

As a result, he is now expected to return to Brentford in the summer, with Danny Rohl searching for a new back-up left-back.

Fortunately, according to Fotmob on 13 May, Penrice is more than capable of fulfilling this role and looks to be a considerable upgrade on Meghoma.

In Greece, the Scotsman has been averaging, a 0.17 xA, 1.34 chances created, 1.55 successful crosses, 1.69 touches in the opposition box, 1.76 tackles and 0.42 clean sheets per 90 minutes.

Many of these stats, particularly the attacking ones, are far better than Meghoma’s, which could result in Rangers having a far bigger attacking threat at the back.

Who else are Rangers linked to?

Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Rangers are ready to step up their interest in Bobby Clark.

The Red Bull Salzburg midfielder has spent the season on loan at Derby County and has impressed in the Championship.

The Austrian side are reportedly happy to accept a cut-price fee for the former Liverpool player, with Rangers among a group of clubs after his signature.

Clark is seen as a player who has the potential to become a huge talent in the future, and a deal to bring him in could form part of a significant turnover in the playing squad at Ibrox.

However, it remains to be seen if Rangers are able to win the race as they prepare for their upcoming 2026-27 campaign.
