Raphinha: Leeds United star ‘will have release clause’ in new contract – Mills
Danny Mills has claimed Raphinha will sign a new Leeds United contract with a release clause.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Whites and England defender insisted the club are right to reward Raphinha for his fine form this season.
A Leeds source told Football Insider on Friday (4 February) a new contract will bring the winger’s value to around the £60million mark.
His value is set to fall to £35million when his contract enters the final two years in the summer.
This site revealed on Thursday (3 February) that the Brazil international, 25, is close to agreeing terms on a new deal after the latest round of talks between his agent Deco and United.
Raphinha signed a four-year deal when he moved from Ligue 1 side Rennes for £17million in October 2020 and has been a revelation ever since.
“They are rewarding him for doing well and hoping that he’s going to stay,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“But also they’re protecting their asset with a longer contract and it will have a release clause in it, which could bump up a potential fee.
“It’s standard business. When you’ve got a player who is doing very, very well for you, you reward him.
“It’s not just because they deserve it, it’s to protect your own asset as well.”

Raphinha has scored eight of Leeds’ 24 Premier League goals this season and has assisted two others.
The seven-time international has 14 goals and 11 assists in 49 top-flight games for the Whites.
In other news, Leeds United rejected ‘£120million’ worth of bids for three stars in January.
