‘Rattled’ – Exclusive: Danny Mills tears into ‘Emotional’ Everton big name

Danny Mills has torn into Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford for letting emotions get the better of him after the draw against Newcastle United.

The former Manchester City and England defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says the shot-stopper will be raging with himself and his defence that they let Florian Lejeune net two late goals.

The Frenchman scored what was his first-ever goal for Newcastle with an overhead kick in injury time before bundling the ball over the line less than two minutes later.

Mills says that while Pickford can be a brilliant goalkeeper, he also allows himself to get wrapped up in the emotion of the situation and says that lets himself and his teammates down.

When suggested that Pickford would be fuming with himself, Mills told Football Insider: “Yeah, definitely and I’ve always said he can be a very, very good goalkeeper, he can be excellent, but he can be a bit emotional, a bit erratic from time to time.

“Look across Stanley Park at Alisson – very rarely gets flustered, doesn’t get rattled, isn’t screaming and shouting, isn’t beating his chest. Jordan Pickford is sometimes the opposite.

“He saves the first shot, punches it in the air, he’s behind the line for the second, some would say it’s a little bit unlucky but then you turn and say well, does Alisson get himself into that situation? Probably not.

“I think that’s why some people now saying does Dean Henderson deserve to go in goal now for England? I think it’s a bit early for that.”

Pickford, who is firmly Everton’s number one goalkeeper, has a total of 115 appearances under his belt, playing in all 29 of the Toffees’ fixtures this season.

He also has 24 caps under his belt for England having made his debut back in 2017.

In other Everton news, Darren Bent admits he is delighted for a Toffees star who has had “a lot to deal with”.
