Ref Watch: Maguire call in Man United clash could force Premier League rule change
A VAR decision from the Man United v Burnley game this week could force a major rule change for the Premier League.
That’s according to ex-FIFA and Premier League referee Keith Hackett, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about a key decision from the game.
Raphael Varane‘s first-half goal against Burnley on Tuesday (8 February) was ruled out after VAR spotted Harry Maguire interfering with play from an offside position.

However, VAR took several minutes to decide whether to give the goal or not.
Hackett wants to see a timer introduced to VAR after the latest long wait for a final decision.
“It’s the correct call but the call loses its value when a decision takes so long,” Hackett told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“I’m almost getting to the point where I’m thinking VAR should be timed.
“I already think VAR should be at the ground and there should be a post-match review.
“I just think there needs to be a time on it. Whether it’s 15 seconds or 30 seconds, then it’s gone.
“If you can’t make your mind up, then the decision stands. The long pauses cause everyone to doubt themselves.
“That includes the referee. So this was an easy decision that took far too long to confirm.
“Hopefully this is another example that could change the law in future.”

Man United lost ground in the top four race thanks to their draw.
They are next in action against Southampton on Saturday (11 February).
