Reliable journalist posts Tottenham midfielder update, fans will be delighted
By Will Butcher
Tottenham winger Erik Lamela has finally received some positive news as he continues his recovery from a long-term hip injury.
The 24-year-old has failed to play for the north London giants since the end of October, as the likes of Heung-Min Son, Moussa Sissoko and Christian Eriksen continue to deputise.
Posting on his personal Twitter account, ESPN’s Tottenham correspondent revealed that Lamela had a scan on the injury in Rome on Friday which showed “no major concerns”.
Argentina international Lamela is now expected to continue rehabilitation on the long-term injury, as he looks to return to aid Tottenham’s title challenge in the near future.
Before picking up the hip problem, the former Roma winger had a hand in nine goals in his 14 league and cup appearances.
Scoring twice himself against Everton and Gillingham, the 24-year-old has also provided seven assists this season and manager Mauricio Pochettino will be keen to see the winger’s return.
Spurs next face Wycombe Wanderers in the FA Cup before facing Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Liverpool in the Premier League, but it remains unclear when Lamela will be fully fit.
Football Insider verdict:
Manager Pochettino will be delighted by the news that his winger is closing in on a return from injury, but it remains to be seen how he will include the classy winger in his side. Since Lamela’s injury, Tottenham have used a 3-4-2-1 system which has seen Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen support talisman Harry Kane. A winning streak of seven games before drawing 2-2 against Man City on Saturday has seen the formation turn out to be a success. Danny Rose and Kyle Walker’s presence on the flanks as wing backs could see Lamela struggle to earn a place in the side if Pochettino opts to continue with the system when his number 11 returns to full fitness.
