New Tottenham blow as senior duo to miss next match – reliable journalist

Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose are major doubts for Tottenham’s FA Cup fourth-round clash against Wycombe on Saturday.
Alderweireld was taken off against Man City just after the hour mark after complaining of a tight hamstring, which saw him replaced by Harry Winks during the 2-2 draw.
England left-back Rose is likely to join Alderweireld on the sidelines for Saturday’s cup clash, as he nurses a knee injury despite completing a full 90 minutes against Pep Guardiola’s side.
ESPN’s Tottenham correspondent Dan Kilpatrick revealed on his personal Twitter account that the senior duo will be assessed in Barcelona today, and are doubts for the visit of Wycombe.
Likely not to be risked against their League Two opponents, the duo will be fighting to return to full fitness for Spurs’ next Premier League clash against Sunderland on January 31.
Former Atletico Madrid and Southampton defender Alderweireld will be a huge loss for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, as Jan Vertonghen remains sidelined with an ankle injury.
Wales international Davies is likely to replace Rose on the left side of defence, while Kevin Wimmer will come in for Alderweireld despite his poor display against City that saw him taken off at half-time.

The loss of Rose and Alderweireld is not a major concern as they were likely to be rested against Wycombe, with Pochettino likely to place his trust in the younger stars of his side. However, if the defensive duo are ruled out for longer, then Spurs’ title bid could suffer with a huge Premier League clash against Liverpool on February 11 ahead of them. The duo’s availability for that game is pivotal if they are to maintain their title challenge, after Antonio Conte’s side won 2-0 against Hull City on Sunday. Arguably two of the most in-form defenders in England’s top flight, the duo are vitally important to Spurs’ side and must be looked after as they look to recover from their more recent setbacks.
