Reliable journalist provides update on Leeds move for Spanish attacker
By Harvey Byrne
A deal for Samu Saiz to join Leeds is “not far away” with the attacker keen to join the Yorkshire giants, according to a reliable journalist.
The 26-year-old’s agent confirmed that Thomas Christiansen’s side were one of several teams interested in the secondary striker during the week.
Now, Yorkshire Evening Post chief writer Phil Hay has reported on his personal Twitter account on Sunday that the message he is receiving from Spain is that Saiz wants the move and that it’s not far from happening.
Saiz is currently playing in the Spanish second division with Huesca and last season he returned a fine 12 goals and eight assists in 40 league matches.
He has previously been a part of both Real Madrid’s B and C teams, while also featuring for Atletico Madrid’s secondary team as recently as 2015.
The former Spain Under-19 international is also entering his final contract with the Spanish club and Leeds may see him as a potential good signing at a value they can meet.
Football Insider verdict:
Saiz has spent his career in the Spanish lower divisions and is fairly unknown outside of Spain. However, the Leeds scouts have to be trusted in this deal and they could make a very smart signing here. The deal can also be compared to when Luciano Becchio made the switch from the Spanish leagues and he went on to gain cult status at the club. If Saiz can have half as successful career as Becchio then he will prove to be a very good signing for the Yorkshire giants this summer.
In other Leeds transfer news, the Whites are also lurking around this 25-year-old international.
