Reliable journalist responds to reported Leeds interest in prolific goalscorer

By Harvey Byrne

Reports linking Leeds with a move for Sheffield Wednesday striker Jordan Rhodes are just rumours at the moment, according to a reliable journalist.

The Daily Mail reported that the Yorkshire giants were weighing up a move for the prolific 27-year-old with star Chris Wood believed to be on his way for a medical at Burnley.

However, it may seem that the Mail have jumped the gun slightly with PeakFM journalist Joe Rawson telling his followers via his personal Twitter account on Sunday morning that links between Leeds and Rhodes were just rumours “at the minute”.

Rhodes only joined Sheffield Wednesday permanently in July after moving on loan from Middlesbrough in the winter window.

The permanent deal was already agreed when he signed for the Owls, but he has since failed to impress with just three goals in 23 outings.

This season has seen him play three times for Carlos Carvalhal’s side also, but he has so far remained goalless.

Football Insider verdict:

For whatever reason it simply hasn’t happened with Rhodes at Sheffield Wednesday and it is not uncommon to see a player make a success of himself at one club before then struggling at another for a number of differing reasons. However, with a record of 94 goals in 210 appearances in the Championship Rhodes it is certainly worth going for by Leeds if Wood does leave as they look to replace the New Zealander’s goals and end their 13-year wait for Premier League football. Rhodes isn’t guaranteed to be a success at the Yorkshire club, as he has shown at Sheffield Wednesday, but he has at least proven he can do it before.
