Aston Villa seal new signing and he will arrive on Monday
By Alex Stevens
Remi Garde has moved to appoint vastly experienced coach Eric Black as his new assistant manager at Aston Villa, Football Insider sources understand.
Garde held talks with Black on Friday and a deal was agreed ahead of the Scot starting at Villa’s Bodymoor Heath training ground on Monday.
A Villa source has told Football Insider that Black, who has been on the coaching staff at Championship club Rotherham, has agreed a deal until the end of the season.
The 52-year-old Aberdeen legend has established an impressive reputation as a coach, working as a No2 at Celtic, Birmingham, Sunderland, Wigan, Blackburn and Blackpool while he bossed Motherwell, Coventry and Scotland Under-21s as well as a number of spells in caretaker charge.
Villa are still bottom of the Premier League despite extending their unbeaten run to five matches with Saturday’s goal-less draw at West Brom.
