Report details Rangers summer training plans as Gerrard gets to work
Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is set to put his new squad through their paces with a pre-season training camp in Andalusia this summer, according to a report, as the new Gers boss prepares for his first season in charge.
According to the Evening Times, Gerrard’s squad will fly out to Spain next month for a ten-day training camp as their preparations for next season step up a gear as they look to bring Celtic’s dominance of the Scottish game to an end.
Football Insider verdict:
The Gers have traditionally gone to the likes of Germany or Holland for pre-season training – although recent years have seen them venture a bit closer to home – so a trip to Spain should be a good opportunity to get away, get to know the squad and get some hard work under their belts in the Spanish sunshine. There’s no mention if the Gers will play any friendlies during their time in Andalusia but it would make sense for the Light Blues to pick up at least one game while they are away. The Gers boss will need to hit the ground running and taking the squad away will give them the best opportunity to make a strong start in the Europa League and Scottish Premiership. The Gers will be hoping to have a few new faces on board by the time they fly out to Spain on June 17th to add to Scott Arfield, Allan McGregor and Jamie Murphy.
