Deal close: Rangers on verge of striker agreement with PL club – report

Rangers are close to agreeing a deal to pay Brighton £1million – potentially rising as high as £1.4million – to secure attacker Jamie Murphy’s signature, according to a report.
The Daily Record claim the Gers will cough up for the former Motherwell and Sheffield United striker with a deal possibly being done by Thursday night.
The 28-year-old is believed to be top of the Gers’ shopping list in the January window and the Light Blues want to have their transfer business done before they fly out to the United States later in the week to take part in the Florida Cup.
The report also states that the Premier League club’s striker will sign a three-and-a-half year deal with his boyhood heroes that will keep him at Ibrox until 2021.
The Gers will face Corinthians and Atletico Mineiro in Florida and Gers boss Graeme Murty will be hoping to have the winger available.
Football Insider verdict
Murphy’s signing could be a crucial bit of business for the Gers this month as they look to close the gap on Old Firm rivals Celtic. At £1million, it’s a good bit of business for a striker at his peak. Rangers have struggled to break down teams who come to Ibrox and sit in so hopefully Murphy can change that for the Gers. Murphy’s lack of games this season so far is a bit of a concern but with the two games in Florida and a Scottish Cup tie with Highland League side Fraserburgh, he’ll have some time to build his match fitness up before the Scottish Premiership gets back underway on January 24th against Aberdeen.
