Report details Tottenham stance on two-time Ligue 1 winning defender

By Harvey Byrne

Tottenham are not interested in signing Paris-Saint Germain right-back Serge Aurier this summer, according to a report.

News outlet Football.London have detailed on their website that the 24-year-old’s troubled past would make Spurs an unlikely destination for the Ivory Coast international.

The report follows a claim made by ESPN that stated Mauricio Pochettino’s side were among the frontrunners for the powerful full-back’s signature.

However, it is believed that Pochettino himself is prepared to start the season with Kieran Trippier and young emerging star Kyle Walker-Peters as his two right-back options following the departure of Kyle Walker to Manchester City earlier in the summer.

Aurier himself would have brought plenty of experience to Tottenham having won the Ligue 1 twice, Coupe de la Ligue three times alongside three Coupe de France medals and one African Cup of Nations award.

However, his career has also been caught in some controversy and in February 2016 he was suspended by PSG after publicly name calling teammates and his then manager Laurent Blanc.

Football Insider verdict:

Pochettino could be slightly naive if he believes both Trippier and Walker-Peters are ready to take the place of Walker in the first team. The England international has been one of the standout right-backs in the Premier League for the past couple of seasons and it cannot be ignored that Trippier saw very little game time before it became known that Walker wanted a move out of the north London club. However, Pochettino has also got little wrong since taking charge of Spurs in the summer of 2014 and many will trust his judgement and decisions going forward.
