Report hands Newcastle renewed hope after major takeover blow
There is “genuine interest” from other parties in a potential takeover of Newcastle United after talks between Mike Ashley and Amanda Staveley’s PCP Capital Partners group collapsed, according to a report.
The Chronicle claim on their website that despite the British businesswoman having seen her move to purchase the Magpies from the Sports Direct supremo stall in a major blow to the club’s takeover hopes, there are moves being made behind the scenes to see a bid tabled by a second interested party, which will give the Toon Army renewed hope of seeing a takeover deal done completed rather than later.
It is said that those brokering the deal have signed a non-disclosure agreement with the club and are in the process of gathering investors to back a takeover swoop, which would see Ashley’s decade-long reign at the club come to an end.
However nothing is set to be immediate, with the report stating that any official bid from a secondary party would be weeks away, with several steps to take before anyone is in the position to table an offer, although the party are said to be keen on securing a deal at the end of the season whether the club are relegated or not, and wish to keep hold of manager Rafael Benitez.
Ashley, who is reportedly seeking a deposit in cash before engaging in negotiations with prospective buyers, has overseen two relegations during his time on Tyneside, and has been widely criticised for his running of the club.
In other Newcastle United news, Benitez has hinted at the return of a first team outcast soon.
