Report: Hope over Newcastle takeover talk progress as key figure jets in for negotiations
PCP Capital Partners hope that Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley jetting back into the United Kingdom can help progress the ongoing takeover talks between the two parties, according to a report.
The Chronicle claim on their website that the negotiations over the sale of the club are still taking place, although there is said to have been little movement as the new year approaches.
Despite worries of a potential collapse, both PCP, fronted by international financier Amanda Staveley, and Ashley’s group are said to still be confident and keen in securing a deal, and that Ashley’s return to the table can help push an agreement towards completion.
The club have officially been up for sale since October, with the Sports Direct supremo looking to bring an end to his 10-year reign on Tyneside, which has led to much speculation over the Magpies’ future.
Negotiations with Staveley and PCP have been elongated since they started the end of November, with the group named as the sole party who have entered the current stage of talks after claims of other prospective suitors.
Ashley’s decade in charge of the club has been filled with controversy, with decisions such as the renaming of St James’ Park and hiring Joe Kinnear and Dennis Wise, as well as two relegations, casting a shadow over their achievements.
In other Newcastle United news, the club are readying a bidding war for a £10million-rated international maestro.
