Report: Major injury boost for Rangers after scan results received
Rangers striker Kenny Miller is confident of returning to action in the New Year, despite concerns he may have played his final game for the club, according to a report.
The Daily Record claims that while medical staff are unwilling to put a date on his return, Miller himself is far more bullish.
The club confirmed yesterday that the 37-year-old would face a significant spell on the sidelines after suffering a serious leg injury.
The striker was substituted in the 15th minute of 2-1 win over Hibernian at Easter Road last week and the club confirmed that the injury was worst than first feared when scan results came back, and that he had ruptured his hamstring.
Interim manager Graeme Murty said: “Kenny’s (injury) is going to be more significant than we thought. Unfortunately it looks as though he has a rupture of his hamstring, so he is going to have a significant amount of time out.”
However, the player himself is said to be confident that he will be back shortly after the winter break.
Miller is about to enter his final six months on his Rangers contract and after this devastating injury blow, some feared his career at Ibrox may be over.
Former Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha axed the forward and made him play with the Under-20s side earlier in the season. However he has since been recalled to the senior side by interim boss Graeme Murty, after Caixinha was sacked in October.
Miller has now made 18 appearances for Rangers in all competitions this season, scoring four goals.
Rangers have fallen to third in the Scottish Premiership table after losing 3-1 to St Johnstone at Ibrox on Saturday. The Light Blues are three points behind second-placed Aberdeen, after 19 matches.
Gers face Kilmarnock in Scottish Premiership action on Saturday, in their final match before Christmas.
