Report: Newcastle in line for big-money major development which will delight Benitez
British businesswoman Amanda Staveley has reopened negotiations for a potential takeover for Newcastle United this summer as they edge closer to Premier League survival, according to a report.
The Mirror claim on their website that fronting an offer from PCP Capital Partners, Staveley has entered talks with current owner Mike Ashley after failing to secure a deal over the winter, the Sports Direct supremo having put the club up for sale in October.
It is stated that the potential new owners are confident in securing a big-money deal in the region of £300million, and that their immediate priority will be investing in the club’s training ground, a development which will delight manager Rafael Benitez as he looks to improve every element from top to bottom, including the likes of the reserve team.
Football Insider verdict
It was only a matter of time until talk of a takeover resurfaced after the elongated drama that occurred over the winter and with Newcastle having taken some massive steps towards securing their place in the top flight last season, it appears that attentions may well be turning. It should come as no surprise that talks have been going on under the surface, despite the war of words when Ashley rebuffed the initial offer, and both parties will hope they continue to be carried out in a covert manner. News that the training ground is set for a revamp will be music to Benitez’s ears, who will no doubt have targeted that as a priority were more money to be made available to him.
