Report: Major update on Newcastle takeover talks will strike fear into hearts of Magpies fans
Newcastle United’s position in the Premier League relegation zone could jeopardise takeover talks between Mike Ashley and Amanda Staveley’s PCP Capital Partners, according to a report.
The Daily Mail claim that Staveley’s camp believe relegation from richest league in the world would wipe £125million off the value of the club.
On the pitch, Rafa Benitez’s side have taken just one point from their last nine Premier League matches and are currently sit third-bottom in the table.
While relegation would not end any hopes of deal entirely, the report states that any contract agreement between the two parties would have to reflect the possibility of the Magpies going down.
Negotiations have been ongoing for weeks with Ashley believed to be holding out for £350million and Staveley’s camp currently valuing the club at significantly less than that at £250million.
And a relegation clause could further complicate talks that have shown no signs of reaching completion.
Meanwhile on the pitch, Benitez is focused on preparing his players for the Premier League showdown with West Ham United on Saturday.
West Ham are going well at the moment under their new manager David Moyes and unbeaten in their last three Premier League matches. A much-needed win for Newcastle would see them leapfrog the Hammers in the table and climb out of the bottom-three.
Meanwhile, West Ham could climb as high as 12th in the table with a victory.
In other Newcastle United news, the club are targeting this £125k-a-week Premier League striker in January.
