Report of Rodgers reunion with midfield dynamo at Celtic seem as unrealistic as it gets
COMMENT
Celtic will no doubt be linked with many players during the summer, but perhaps one of the most unrealistic names that has been mention is Stoke’s Joe Allen.
The Mirror reported that Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers was interested in a reunion with the player he had at Liverpool.
That sounds fairly reasonable, until the report went on to state that Allen has a £25million release clause in his contract.
So that move isn’t going to happen any time soon.
Even if the Bhoys wanted to bring the 28-year-old in on loan, they would have to smash their weekly wage barrier to bring him to the club, which Hoops supremo Peter Lawwell would not be in favour of.
It is easy to see why Allen has been linked with the Hoops.
Stoke have been relegated from the Premier League, they will need to trim their wage bill, and he used to work with Rodgers.
There is no doubt that Rodgers would love to bring a player of Allen’s quality to Glasgow, he could be a revelation for the Bhoys in the Champions League.
But being realistic, the move is never going to happen, and the Welsh midfield dynamo will more than likely return to the Premier League for around the £25million that the Potters are looking for.
