Swansea defender Neil Taylor is edging close to a move to Aston Villa as he prepares to undergo a medical at the club on Monday night, according to a report.
HITC Sports claim both clubs have agreed that Jordan Ayew will be part of the player-plus cash exchange for the Wales international left-back.
It is said that Villa will receive some money for versatile attacker Ayew as he readies to swap clubs with Taylor.
HITC report that 27-year-old Taylor will now travel to Birmingham for his medical where he will meet up with Villa boss Steve Bruce who believes the deal was too good to turn down.
The Wales international ace is set to drop down a division to the Championship where he will be tasked to help a struggling Villa team earn promotion.
Recently appointed Swans boss Paul Clement confirmed in his press conference on Monday afternoon that the swap deal for the duo is edging closer.
Ayew, 25, joined Villa during the summer of 2015 from French side Lorient and was part of the club’s relegation last season.
He is now set to become the fourth player to leave Villa Park this month, following the permanent transfer of striker Rudy Gestede and loan deals involving, Aly Cissokho, Pierluigi Gollin and Aaron Tshibola.
Ayew has scored just two goals in the Championship this season, while Taylor has fallen behind new January signing Martin Olsson in the left-back pecking order.
Football Insider verdict:
Wales international Taylor can now establish himself as a first-choice left-back at the Midlands side. Jordan Amavi currently holds that position and is well liked by the supporters. His performances this season have been very good, even though he has lacked consistency at times. However, Taylor, with his experience in the top flight and on the international stage, will provide the Frenchman with competition. It may even signal the end of Amavi’s career at Villa Park, not at this moment in time, but in the summer. The youngster has attracted a lot of interest but has opted to stay at the Championship club. If Villa find themselves stuck in the Championship come the end of the campaign, Taylor may become a replacement for Amavi rather than just competition.
