Report: Rangers reignite transfer hunt for £500k English hitman after January flop
Rangers have reignited their interest in English striker Louis Moult after he has flopped following his move to Preston North End in January, according to a report.
The Sunday Sun claim on their website that the Light Blues are eyeing up the 25-year-old once again after seeing him flop with the Championship side, having moved south of the border from Motherwell following an impressive first half of the campaign.
He scored 14 goals in 22 appearances in both the league and the cup for the Premiership outfit but has failed to find the back of the net with Preston in his seven outings so far, with BBC Sport having reported that the Whites spent a fee of around £500,000 in securing his signature.
Moult has a total of 38 goals in 84 top flight appearances in Scotland, and Rangers would hope he could rediscover his form if he were to return.
Football Insider verdict
The 25-year-old was recognised as one of the top forwards outside of Glasgow before his move to England, and a return to Scotland seems likely if he cannot get his shooting boots working before the end of the season. Rangers have Alfredo Morelos leading the line but Moult would offer something a bit different, with his height and power meaning he is more of a target man than the Colombian. If he can replicate his form for Motherwell with the Light Blues, then his signing would be a worthwhile deal, especially if they can get a cut price deal from the £500,000 spent in January.
