Report: Tottenham eye prolific 21-year-old striker, release clause £6.9m
By Dominic Toner
Tottenham are interested in Malaga striker Sandro Ramirez, according to a report.
The Mirror reported on their transfer news blog on Saturday (23:46) that Spurs have been alerted to the availability of the 21-year-old.
The report details that the forward has a release clause of £6.9million, but that fee will go down to £5.2million in the summer.
Ramirez has been impressing in Spain this season with Malaga and has been prolific in front of goal, scoring nine goals in 18 appearances.
The ex-Barcelona attacker has enjoyed a great time since moving to Malaga in the summer, where he has been able to experience regular first-team football.
Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino may be looking to bolster his attacking options in January as the north London club try to fight for the title.
Football Insider verdict:
Spurs should pursue a move for Ramirez in the summer as he is showing his qualities in La Liga. The 21-year-old is proving he can compete against strong opposition and could make a seamless transition to the Premier League, something that Spurs forward Vincent Janssen has struggled to do. Dutchman Janssen has been unable to replicate his goalscoring form in England and it means that Dele Alli and Harry Kane are the two sole attackers. Pochettino’s side could be in trouble if they suffer an injury setback, with the club still competing both domestically and in Europe. Ramirez is clearly a highly rated youngster after graduating from Barcelona’s academy and his pace could threaten Premier League defences. Spurs need another attacking option in January and won’t find many better options for just £6.9million.
